Carnival Corporation, the largest cruise organisation in the world, has announced nine new ships are to be added to their nine brands between 2019 and 2022.
The organisation has signed memorandums for the construction of the new ships with Italy's Fincantieri and Germany's Meyer Werft. Five ships will be constructed at Fincantieri and four built at Weyer Werft in Papenburg and Turku.
It has been suggested that these new cruise ships will be the next generation in design and will differ from pervious designs used on their existing ships.
Arnold Donald, CEO of Carnival Corporation was excited at the announcement and heralded the announcement as the beginning of something excitement for the organisation.
" We’re excited to take this next step in our fleet enhancement plan with these two new agreements that are consistent with our long-term strategy of measured capacity growth over time,” said Arnold Donald, president and CEO of Carnival Corporation. “Our goal as a company is to exceed the expectations of every guest on every ship every day, and these new ships will further enable us to do just that. These will be the most efficient ships we have ever built and the great guest experience will create even more excitement around cruising – helping new cruisers realize the superior vacation experience and value that cruising offers versus land-based vacations.
With the addition of the new ships, the identities of the cruise lines from which these ships will operate have not yet been revealed but Costa Cruises have been rumoured to be expecting at least one brand new ship. These ships are expected to be marketed to North America and Europe however new emerging destinations such as China and Asia could result in one or more of the new builds perhaps being based in that region.
